| criteeker's Full Review: Logitech MX 300 (930762-0403) Mouse |
Okay, I'm one of those who uses a computer every day. I have an addiction: Yes, a video game. I bought several different mice to test them out while playing Medal of Honor for the PC. Most of them either strained my hand, finger or wrist. So many trips to computer or electronic stores later... I bought the MX300 and felt, "This is the one"
The 2-button Logitech MX-300 (versus the small ones for laptops, the wireless ones or the track balls) performed the best. You can imagine playing games might test the mouse to it's potential. Well, I was so pleased with this simple, accurate and smooth tracking mouse I needed to share. The mouse is also very good working with Adobe Photoshop.
With an optical mouse, there is NO ball to clean. Although with three dogs, I do have to "dust-off" the eye every so often. There are also 4 round gliders on the bottom of the mouse that aid is smooth gliding across most surfaces. As with all optical mice, the laser will NOT track well on mirrored or glass surfaces. I use an over-sized mousepad.
The MX-300 also has a wheel that clicks rather than just rolling freely, which I feel is more accurate. Also there is a programmable button located just behind the wheel and NOT on the side. This button allows you to access any open program or document, instead of clickin on it in your tool bar. I can't tell you how annoying it is to be playing a game and accidentally click that button on the side and messes up a game. Another feature of the scrolling wheel: if you tap the wheel once and an icon will appear. Moving the mouse above that icon will scroll upward and moving it below the icon will scroll downward. This is helpful with long documents.
The MX-300 does come with an PS/2 to USB adapter in case you don't have a USB port in your PC or Mac. It's easy to install (especially for XP users and Mac users) In XP, the mouse is instantly recognized due to the included drivers within XP. It even comes with the drivers on a CD rom just in case. Just plug it into a USB or PS/2 port. Period.
UPDATE: After years of trusty service, the MX-300 died on me. I replaced it with the Logitech LX3 for $19.73. Please read my review of the LX3 Click HERE
