Pros: 8 buttons! Best mouse you can buy!
Cons: Buttons could have more configuration options.
The Bottom Line: Most useful mouse around, but don't use the supplied drivers; download the new ones from the Logitech website.

This mouse is simply the best you can get. No less than 8 buttons, although there could be more configuration options.
Very comfortable to use, but a small hand would find one or two of the buttons difficult to use, and according to tomshardware.com you should avoid using the supplied 9.7 drivers (esp if you run Win XP) and download the new 9.75 drivers from the Logitech website. I've been using the new drivers under XP for a week with no problems.
In short the extra buttons and comfort give it the edge over any Microsoft mouse.
The body of the MX 500 is identical to the Mx 700, it's just that this used a cable to function instead of a wireless link.
It may seem a bit expensive but if you use a mouse for any length of time you will realise that your hand deserves the best.
PS. In response to the person who asked if I sometimes hit the extra buttons by accident the answer is no I don't. I've been using this mouse for almost 2 weeks and that hasen't happened once (unlike when I was using my old MS Intellimouse Explorer).
I use the buttons in the following way:
2 main buttons as normal
2 thumb buttons : copy + paste
nearest middle button : undo
button between that and the wheel : scroll down
Wheel button : universal scroll (might change this)
furtherst mid button : minimize all
Recommended:
Yes
Amount Paid (US$): 55.00
