| clooneyfan's Full Review: Fellowes P400C-2 Shredder |
My husband and I never used to be overly concerned about someone going through our trash in search of personal information until the recycling program took effect in my community.
I used to be content in ripping up my documents and mixing them all up with the smelly garbage and kitty litter, etc. I figured if anyone wanted to root through all of that mess to find out something about me- they would at least have to work and suffer to do it.
Since we now put all of our paper products in a paper grocery bag and sit it out on the curb each week, I've realized the how easy it could be for someone to access my personal documents. ATM receipts, cancelled checks, credit card receipts, billing statements, stuff with our social security number on it, you name it- it was easily accessible for someone who wanted it.
While hubby was browsing though Office Depot last week, he happened to see a Fellowes P400C Paper Shredder on sale so he jumped at the chance to purchase this. We keep it at home next to our recycle bin.
It's fairly small and not made for business use (unless it's a very small business). It has a stamped steel cutting system (which means all paper clips and staples must be removed prior to shedding documents or you'll ruin it). It can only take 4 or 5 papers at a time, which is usually adequate for our needs. This particular model gives you the confetti cut, which is more secure and less waste than the typical strip cut. It is electric powered (no battery option) but this is not a problem for us since we leave it in the same spot most of the time, which is near an outlet. The slot is wide enough to take all papers and legal documents.
It has a mechanical auto start, which means when you put the main switch to the AUTO position, the standby mode activates and the shredder will automatically start when you insert the paper and stop when it is finished shredding. It has a reverse switch for any paper jams and a red LED which lights up when the waste bin is full of paper.
Since purchasing this shredder, my husband loves to open the mail. (He used to hate opening it because of all the junk offers we got, which he would leave on the dining room table all week for the good fairy to pick up). Now the junk mail miraculously disappears!
If something arrives with any identification on it, he gets that crazy gleam in his eye and he starts shredding. A man defending his family.
