shippo225's Full Review: Palm (P10893) for Tungsten T
Introduction:
.....For those of you new to pdas, a stylus is just a name for a pen designed to write on touch-screens like palms. A good one is important to ensure that your screen is protected from scratches. The Palm Tungsten T stylus is designed, and only designed for, the Tungsten T. This is because when you put the stylus into it's burrow and click it, only the top of the stylus is visible, making it look like a button on the computer. When you want to use it again, just press the button down and the pen pops out of it's housing and is ready to use.
.
.
The Main Frame - (hey, it rhymes):
.....The stylus is composed of mostly metal with a plastic tip and head.
.....The body is a metal tube about five centimeters long and approximately three milimeters wide. Located inside the tube is a lengthy, ballpoint pen-like spring crammed into the tiny tube. This is responsible for the head popping up. Press it once, and it will lock closed. Press it again, and it will unlock and pop open with excitement.
.
.
The Applicator - The Tip, in other words:
.....The tip of the stylus is the most important part of it. This is the part that will actually come in contact with the screen, smoothly enough to avoid scratching it. It is no more than a milimeter wide, about the width of an average paper clip tip.
.....You have to be careful that the tip doesn't fall. This is common. Once you lose it, it will be extremely hard to find it unless you have a pure white floor. The tip is less than a centimeter long.
.....There is a simple solution to this problem with just a few steps, if you want to devote five minutes to doing it. First, take the tip outand put it somewhere where it won't get lost. Next, take a tube of liquid glue and tediously drop one drop of all-purpose glue into the recessed hole where the tip is housed. Quickly put the tip into the hole and let set fora minute or two a insure that the tip is set. Just make sure you get a glue that won't leave the area white.
.
.
The Head Of The Stylus:
.....The head is black and composed of plastic. This is good because when it slips into the Tungsten T silo, it is the same color as the top of the pda, black, therefore blending in. When you press the top down, it springs up about a half to three quarters of an inch. If it didn't spring up, you'd never the stylus out of the burrow on the Tungsten T unit. The extended form also makes for a more comfortable grip for larger hands, like my own. It's as simple as clicking a BIC pen or a mechanical pencil.
.
.
Scratchless Screen Tips.
.....Even with a solid tip on your stylus, it is also important to keep some other things in mind. More important than a good stylus tip is a clean screen. If your screen is not clean, then little particles of dust can be pressed into the screen and scraped along it. Over time, several fine lines will appear on the screen. Keeping a clean screen will prevent this. Also, you can buy screen protectors specially designed to fit your Tungsten T screen to protect it from the stylus and other abrasions.

At The Store:
.....When you purchase the Tungsten T Spring Styli, you'll notice that they are not available individually. I know because I've been looking for one for a while, but have been forced to get the trió. Oh well. Anyways, you will instead find them in a tree pack.
.....The pens come in a fancy plastic case. Located on the back are detailed instructions that will show you how to carefuly open the package with scissors efficiently. If done right, you will be able to stores the extra stylus or styli in the original package. A rubber band or a strip of scotch tape will be enough to hold the pack together securely. Just be careful not to let any of the styli to fall out of the package while trying to open it, because once it is open, the pens are victims of gravity-(sounds good)-.
.....The three pack will set you back about ten to fifteen dollars, not enough to induce a stroke, but it still might seem like alot for a few pens. But think about it, you'll eventually be forced to buy a spare. One won't last forever. Even if you take good care of your first one, the tip will slowly deteriorate and may scratch the screen of your TT. But once you buy a three pack, you shouldn't have to buy any again. If you do, consider getting one of those styluses with a string attached to your pda.
.
.
Conclusion:
.....All-in-all, you should buy these if you own a Palm Tungsten T. First of all, it's always safe and reasuring to know that you will have a spare incase you accidentally lose your stylus. Or if some dimented-minded person desides to unknowingly steal it, for some odd reason or another. So you will eventually be buying them, anyway. So why not get 'em now.
.....Ihaven't had mine for long, but I already lost it. I think it happened when I accidentally dropped my Palm. So even I am directed toward the Palm Tungsten T Spring Stylus 3-pack.
