| klmresources's Full Review: Seagate 1394 External Storage 40 GB FireWire 400 (... |
I need extra storage for my digital home videos. I bought the Maxtor 40 GB hard drive for extra space. Depending on what you plan is for your external hard drive, depends on the size you need to purchase. I only need about 20 – 30 GB, so I bought the 40 DB drive because of the price.
One reason I chose this brand/model is because it uses IEEE 1394 Firewire, which is the only kind I would ever buy now. You will see a lot of hard drives that use USB, but Firewire is so much faster. I recommend anything you buy external, see if you can get one that uses Firewire. (Firewire is just the type of cable it uses to transfer information back and forth)
Only thing is you have to have Firewire slot on your computer. Must new computer have them as a standard now.
Setup is easy, it comes with good instructions. Easy to move from one computer to another, if needed. It comes with a CD for Maxtools which all you to daisy chain other devices with Firewires. If you if bought this now and in the future if you needed more space you could buy another hard drive with Firwire and daisy chain it to this one for more space.
Overall, I would recommend this hard drive. It easy to use and has a good transfer rate.
