| aashok's Full Review: Toshiba MK 2001MPL 2 GB ATA-66 Hard Drive |
I purchased this card for $150 from uBid(new). I was going to take a long trip and needed to take along my MP3 collection. I had also purchased an IPAQ 3765 with the PC card sleeve. This was a perfect complement to the IPAQ.
Out of the box, it came with a very sturdy, shock proof plastic case with soft rubber inserts. The instructions are very clear. "Do not squeeze on top of the cover" These units are built to last but will need repair if handled carelessly.

The Good
Small Size.
The dimensions of this unit are: Height 2.12" (54mm),Width 3.37" (85.6mm),Depth 0.2" (5.0mm)
It will fit in the PCMCIA slot of almost all notebooks and can be used with any IPAQ with a PC Card expansion sleeve.
It takes very little precious storage space. It can be carried in a shirt pocket inside a hard PCMCIA case.
Multiple uses.
I have used this unit to store and play MP3 files while traveling, picture files to share with friends and relatives, large Powerpoint presentations, and to take work, home and back. I use it to transfer data across my HP XT375 notebook (soon to be reviewed), the Compaq IPAQ 3765 pocket pc and my home desktop server. This unit added to an IPAQ pocket pc, blows away any Archos or IPOD device.
Easy to use.
On most computers it will show up as drive E: in windows explorer. You can drag and drop files and folders as you would do with a regular HDD, floppy or CDR/RW.
The Bad
Slow transfer speeds.
Regardless of manufacturer claims, this card was slow when used in the IPAQ. It slows down the power on sequence, clips on occasion when playing back MP3 files and slow to display JPEG files in Pocket Internet Explorer. The IPAQ immediately went back to normal operational speeds when card was removed. My suggestion is not to use this unit in critical situations like client presentations when you need to quickly switch between files or folders. It will leave you fumbling and waiting for it to do it's stuff. A better alternative is high speed CF cards. (a lot more expensive option). Transfer critical files to the CF card and use that during presentations. Most other times data can be accessed directly from this HDD.
The Bottom Line
Another must have item for people on the move. Store pictures, music, videos, documents, spreadsheets, Powerpoint presentations and anything else you can imagine. You will appreciate the small size when traveling.
