| nplus1's Full Review: Apple iMac Indigo 15 in. (M7669LL/A) Mac Desktop |
First let me say that I'm quite pleased with my iMac purchase, and think it was the perfect computer for my particular needs.
I wanted to get my girlfriend her 1st computer. She had little prior computer experience, and I wanted her first one to be pleasant so that she would continue to use it. I was also on a limited budget. I was looking for a computer in the "under $1000" range and came to the iMac. I've used both PC'c and Macs for several years, and the one thing I remembered about Macs was that they tended to be easier to use for the novice user.
Now, with their new all in one design, that was even more true. We had the system up and running in about 10 minutes (and yes, that included opening the box and actually taking our time). The all in one design reminded me of the old B&W "fishtank" mac...but on steroids!
Soon I was installing software (a breeze) and the system was ready for her use.
The system worked well for about 3 months and then we had our only problem. Apparently the 350 slot-loading iMac had a design flaw with the power button. The tolerances were off and when the button moved slightly it ended up forming a "press-fit" in the ON position. Soon the computer was locked up and wouldnt work.
It was a very quick repair (brought it to an apple authorized repair shop and they had it done in about 15 minutes). The one thing I realized was that had it been any computer other than an iMac, I could have opened up the case and fixed it myself. This , to me is one of the major design flaws of the all in one design; but I don't expect it to be an issue, as every other Mac I've had has almost never had HW problems.
What I thought would be a problem in the small mouse and keyboard, ended up being a benefit, as my GF has small hands and found them both quite comfortable.
Overall, I'd have to say this was the perfect entry level computer. It was easy to set up, easy to use and kinda cute to boot.
