Do not buy unless you get the extended warranty

I a writing to warn anyone who is considering buying an iMac to make sure they buy the extended warranty. Recently, my iMac was having trouble booting up. So I took it to my local service provider for repairs. The next day, the repair company called back informing me that the computers logic board had broken, and it would cost between $540.00 to $700.00 to fix. Of course this came as a huge shock to me since the year warranty ran out six months previously. The most upsetting thing about it is I still have a balance of over a thousand dollars left on my Apple Loan.
My attempts at contacting Apple for some retribution, came with little simpathy. They informed me that it was my own fault for not purchasing the add-on warranty when I first bought the computer. If I would have know that it would break down a year and a half after I bought it, I guarantee you that would have been part of my initial purchase. Basically now I am left with a broken computer which I still owe over a thousand dollars on. It isn’t even worth fixing because I could just buy a new iMac for $900.00 that would be faster, have more ram and hardrive space, and a year warranty.
Please listen to my story and remember to buy the extended warranty. I thought I would be using my iMac for the next five years, or at least until I paid it off. I guess Apple was more concerned with making a cute computer, instead of making one that would last for any significant amount of time. I sincerely hope Apple is now making a better iMac because I wouldn’t want anyone else to put in the same situation that I am in.
