Where can I begin?
I bought a Compaq 5460 at a local store. I paid a decent price (or so I thought). I brought it home, and no problems... less than a week later, while I was doing some work on the computer, it switched itself on and off with no warning. It just shut off, and then turned back on, and rebooted itself. I thought maybe I bumped a cord or something, and just ignored it. About an hour later, it happened again, so I thought maybe a had a "dirty" electrical line, so I went and bought a better surge suppresor. The next day, it switched itself on and off, again... So, I took it back to the store, and got another IDENTICAL computer. Brought it home, same problems... it kept switching on and off. My brother and law (by chance) bought the SAME computer, and IT too kept switching on and off. By now, I had had enough, and called Compaq. After spending 2 hours (really, TWO HOURS) getting bounced around and sitting on hold, I got a technician who basically told me they couldn't do anything, and he wanted me to sit in front of the computer with him while he was on the phone so he could verify my claim. This made NO sense, since there was no way for him to see the computer going on and off, and I wasn't going to sit in front of my computer with him on the phone for hours...
So... in conclusion, DOn't buy Compaq. The computers have big problems, customer service is rude and useless, and depending where you buy it, you have to pay a hefty restocking fee.. (which I wound up paying, and just bought an NEC, which is great...)
