Compaq PC's are sometimes a mixed bag. I work in computer retail and servicing and I know what customers like and dont like when it comes to laying down a lot of money on a desktop computer. But when someone is in the market for a user friendly worth it's weight pc, I recommend the 5736.
First of all, the 5700 series utilizes Intel processors both pentium and celeron. I have had problems with the AMD processors and I'm glad to see the real thing. Although this series is no longer "top-of-the line" technology wise, they are chock full of features that will make it a great tool for years. This model has a DVD-ROM drive and CD-R which lets you burn your own cd's and watch DVD movies and use DVD software. Another feature I like is the easy to get to IEEE(firewire)port which is right up front and allows you to connect a digital camcorder with ease. Also a wealth of USB ports(2 front, 2back) for all your peripherals!
I have not had a single complaint from an owner about these machines. The only problem you may encounter, and this is common with any PC with integrated components, is that there are few upgrade options. But like I said...the stock hardware will serve you well for years to come.
And I noticed the price listed at this web site was almost $2000! You can do a lot better than that if you are careful. This machine with a 15' compaq monitor and printer can be found below $1500. You can do even better by substituting components. I've had customers upgrade to a 17' monitor of a different brand and make out $100 cheaper and none the less happy! You'll enjoy this machine for sure, but you will enjoy it even more if you spend less!
