This was the second computer that I have purchased and I love it! In late April of this year I decided to purchase a new computer. I wanted one that wasn't top of the line since those are the most expensive. Circuit City was having a special deal on this computer where they gave away a free printer with the computer. I decided to go for it, and boy I'm glad I did. Here's the basic specs on the computer:
Intel Pentium III 600mhz
128 mb pc100 sdram
40 gig hard drive
40x cd-rom
4x4x32 cd-rw
Generic graphics card
Windows 98 Second Edition
It's very easy to plug everything in and get started. All of the cords are color-coded to make it simple to get set up. Once you boot up the computer it does everything for you, you just need to enter your name and some other information.
I've tried out lots of things on the computer to test its ability. Surfing the Internet works great, it never stalls even when I'm running all my favorite paid-to-surf programs. The extra ram really helps here.
Gaming is great! The graphics card works well for being a generic card. If you plan to play graphics-intense 3-d games I suggest you add a secondary PCI card. You'll definitely have plenty of room for games on the large 40 gig hard drive.
I've watched full-length movies on my computer also. Even all full-screen the video quality is excellent. And since you get a nice 17" monitor you can watch at resolutions up to 1280x1024!
The CD-RW drive is a snap to use. It comes with all the software already and works perfectly. With my last computer my cd-rw drive would often fail and I would waste tons of cds. Not a problem any more!
The Pentium Processor combined with the 40x cd-rom drive make installing software incredibly fast. I was amazed as the speed of installation on most programs.
Also, the computer is VERY stable. In the first month I used the compaq 7598 it never crashed.
Cons:
Only comes with a generic graphics card, I would've like to have something better.
The price is certainly right on this system, I definitely recommend this product.
