I'm a very happy camper. For once I did something right, which when it comes to shopping for a computer is a rarity. First I'll tell you what I did wrong in the past.
Last year early 1999, we needed two new computers with CDRW's, DVD. We thought to ourselves, gee, it would be nice to buy local. So in Claremore Oklahoma we bought two "made from scratch" PII 400's. From the day we brought them home, functioned very poorly to say the least. Of course the little store wouldn't do much more than take a look at them. Then we made the BIG mistake. We went to Sam's Club, we spent over $5000. hard earned dollars for those pieces of confused plastic, at Sam's we COULD have had some awesome machines that sang instead of..will...croak! Last week we moved to California, and the plastic terrors had done exactly that...sputter...croak...
We started combing the stores, came real close to buying two computers..reaching for checkbook and ding a thought came flashing in my head. Hey, why don't we check out Sam's Club? Why not? Do we still have a membership? Sitting on a shelf at Sam's was the prettiest machine I had ever seen. For once I wasn't looking a stark white, miniature version of a refrigerator. The Hewlett Packard PIII, 650 had sexy contours, contrasting light gray and charcoal gray colors. A massive 40 gig hard drive and 128 ram. Also included was a CDRW, DVD, and a network card to boot! Price? All for the amazing low price of $1,599. We picked up one and brought it home, (see, we're learning!) Opened the box and low and behold, everything is color coded for easy assembly. The added perks a build in microphone and cute little speakers stuck on where the ears might be. Also included is a different than I'm use to keyboard with lots of extra buttons I haven't begun to figure out.
Two hours ago we ventured back to Sacramento, Sam's Club and bought the last HP 650 on the shelf. Chuckling to myself, hey, we did it right this time!
