I work in the IT department of an Army unit and we have about 10 of the Vectra VE's and about 15 VL's. They're a little dated with only 233 and 333 processors, but they work fine for most applications.
I've had success running 95, 98, and NT on all these machines and I find that under poor power conditions (dirty power, engineers will understand) they hold up pretty well. The dust and dirt gets the best of the CD-ROMs after several months of daily use but the generic CD-ROMs are a snap to replace.
The drivers for all the hardware is easy to find on the HP.com site and it makes any repairs very easy.
My only bone to pick is that these computers use Flexdrive floppy drives which is an HP special--so you can't just use generic hardware to switch out the floppy as far as I've found, but I'm sure some super techie could steer your clear.
Overall, a reliable and good computer. I wouldn't buy one for myself because the price tag is a little high, but corporate America and the Government can afford it.
