The 558 is the new kid on the block in the line of Sony multimedia - oriented machines. This unit has all the bells and whistles, with an 866 mhz PIII processor, 128 mb sdram, and a whopping 40 gb hard drive. this machine is geared for the home user who is heavily into digital capture and editing. capture is accomplished via a 400 mbps/sec high speed Ilink (IEEE1394) connection to a camcorder or camera. The included image editing software can range from movie Shaker, an easy-to-use entry level .avi editor to Adobe Premier L.E which can be upgraded to the full version for complete professional quality video editing functionality. Ilink can also be used to connect to another similarly equipped Sony desktop or Laptop for amazingly fast file transfer from computer to computer. There is plenty of available disk space on the 40 gb hard drive, and customers can purchase an additional 40 gb Hard drive space when purchasing a unit CTO from Sony Vaio Direct. The display quality is awesome. You haven't experienced DVD until you see it in a completely digital environment. If you want to experience digital imaging to its' fullest capablities, get one of these !
