Yeah, the title is cheesy....so what? Do you realize how much pressure it is to try to be smart and witty and talk to people all day long on the phone and pretend to care about their problems and then try to come up with intelligent things to write about?
Ummm...nevermind...
Anyways, this computer was definitely a step above the rest when it was released. It combines the power of a Sony Computer with the compactness of a, well, Compaq. It is power meeting style, and procreating consistantly to develop the perfect mix of each.
First of all, the computer is packing a whopping Pentium II 400 MHz processor. Yeah, I know that isn't much right now with the age of Gigahertz and beyond, but when this computer was developed this was top of the line. That is not even mentioning the fact that I am still using a few of these same processors in my home network, and they will support just about any game or application that you would possible be using for home use at this time.
Along with the speed and power of the computer, it also includes a bit of style. If you notice the picture listed above, the case of the computer is slim and stylish, because everyone knows you have to have a pretty case. It is purple, so if you are trying to coordinate your wardrobe to your computer, then you might want to keep this in mind.
The system also comes with a flat panel LCD display that is specifically designed for use with this computer. Hey, it looks cool, ok?
The L series desktops work exceptionally well in an office environment. In such an environment, desk space is a must, and the compact design of this system definitely aids this. It works for home users with this problem as well, but normally in a home most people have room to put a tower computer on the floor if they don't have room on the computer desk.
As with all other Sony VAIO computers, the L400 has the i.Link (IEEE 1394, Firewire, whatever you call it) port, which is great for importing digital video. If you have a Sony Digital Camcorder, you will be smokin' through the importing, editing, and exporting of the video using the supplied software.
All in all, if you need a decent computer that doesn't take up much room on your desk, this is the way to go. the reason I am writing about a discontinued model is because I just saw one of these on the Yahoo! Auctions and so I know if you look hard enough you will be able to find one. If you have the option to get one, I would say to do it.
