| joakimsen's Full Review: 3Com HomeConnect DSL Modem (3CP3617B-VZN) |
I got this modem when I first signed up for Bellsouth's FastAccess ADSL service.
The installation was very simple, but neglected to install virtual private networking. This set me back about an hour with tech support untill I spoke with someone that knows the diffrence between DSL and a monitor. It only took 30 seconds to fix the problem.
This modem is based on the Alcatel DYNAMITE chipset, just as the 3060 PCI and 4060 USB are, so they will provide the same performance.
Drivers for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000 are included, so it will work with most computers. Linux drivers might be in the works.
If you order DSL from bellsouth and ask for the PCI modem, this is probably what you will get. If you order the USB modem, you will probably get the "Stingray" Alcatel SpeedTouch USB.
Now I have the Alcatel SpeedTouch Home, ethernet, so I can setup a network.
