| hnlute's Full Review: ADI Corporation MicroScan 5G CRT Monitor |
We purchased the 17” ADI 5G Microscan monitor in June of 1999. I’ve been using ADI Microscan monitors for many years. They were recommended to me by a PC builder in San Jose (RT Computers) way back in 1994. I took a chance at the time, having favored monitors by Panasonic (Panasync), Sony (Trinitron fame) or NEC instead. I’ve NEVER looked back! ADI Microscans are simply ruggedly built, nicely packaged, reliable and high quality monitors that have NEVER failed us. We have every one we’ve ever owned, 10 in all, 3 GPs, 4’s, 4GP’s and now the 17” 5G. Never a failure in either intermittent or continuous use, day in and day out, year after year, power outages and brownouts too! The ADI’s just soldier on.
The 5G features a completely digital setup for all controls, not on-screen but still quite effective and nicely out of the way via a tilting panel when not in use. Factory automatic settings make initial setup a breeze. The ADI monitor fully supports all sleep and suspend modes without the narcolepsy or unstable nervousness that affects some other highly touted monitors. The pitch is tight at .26 (same as the 4GP) and contrast and color saturation are both excellent. Pincushioning is minimal but it is fully adjustable on the 5G.
I highly recommend the ADI series of monitors, equal in everything but price to some very expensive like devices. Our long use history and our favorable results mean I will continue to purchase ADIs in the future.
