Hitachi Super Scan Elite 751 19" Monitor

  • User Rating: Excellent
  • Ease of Use:
Pros:High dollar quality/features at a low dollar Price!
Cons:Takes a while to get dialed in. No USB, speakers.
The Bottom Line: Buy it. Quality is excellent. Working perfectly for 2 years almost constant use (12-14 hours/day) Price isn't so important when your looking at it all the time everyday, Quality is.

I read CNet's review of this monitor that said it was hard to adjust, Yes compared to a 2 button simple smaller monitors it is harder to adjust. But compared to high quality larger monitors, It's normal and simply requires reading the manual and working with it a little. I bought mine for $439.00 incl. shipping.
I did have a problem when I first hooked it up that scared me, screen was green! Found out in my haste to connect it I did not tighten connector properly, after tightening all has been well for over 2 years. I have upgraded my system a couple of times since getting it but have no intention of changeing this monitor.
in fact I would like to have another one for dual monitor use. After adjusting properly it has excellent color, absolutely straight display. I do a lot of photo/video work and color, brightness, sharpness is very important to me and I am very satisfied with it's performance. I have a NEC 15" multisync monitor beside it and the 751 only 2" deeper (nec is 16"deep, hitachi is 18"deep) so I feel Hitachi's claim that the footprint is smaller than some 17" monitors is accurate. When I first went monitor shopping I was looking for a Sony Trinitron, but got this instead (and a lot of change back). I have never regretted my decision. The screen is almost flat, certainly flatter than any monitor i have had in the past. BTW: when looking at a Sony flat monitor, I could see myself in the reflection, found it disturbing. So I personally don't find the very slight curve to be a problem.
Possible drawbacks are no USB connectors and no speakers but I prefer larger speakers than come with most monitors anyway, and of course the monitor is pretty heavy (most 19"+ monitors are). But the picture is stunning and everyone who sees it is very impressed. I still am after 2 years, you'll be very happy if you get one.
