| darktemplar's Full Review: Mag Innovision InnoVision XJ 500T CRT Monitor |
The Mag XJ500T is one good monitor that many people took for granted. Of all the monitors I owned, it is the one that I'll willingly stick to for a long time. It has been with me for about 2 years already and I still love it. I don't care if 17" monitors are quite cheap nowadays. The only time I'll replace my XJ500T is when LCD monitors became very cheap.
I love the visual quality: crisp and clear. It is easy on the eyes even after extended use. I use my computer for a long time when programming or playing games and it did not strained my eyes. The good visual quality is due to its Trinitron picture tube, 0.25mm dot pitch and high refresh rate of upto 85Hz.
The time when I was buying my XJ500T, a lot of people dislike it because of two light horizontal white lines that can only be visible if you're in Windows desktop or in some 2D applications. They thought it was defective. But I researched it beforehand so I know that those two light horizontal white lines is actually the proof that it is uses a Trinitron tube. I told them that but some still bought a Viewsonic with the same price. That's their decision.
The JAG control combined with OSD (on screen display) is quite interesting. Every settings and controls are handled by it. You rotate it to move between menu selections or increase/decrease settings and press it to select a menu or to accept the settings. It's quite easy and simple to use.
Software driver is not needed for Windows 9x as the XJ500T is automatically detected during installation. As for its power saving feature, it is Energy Star compliant.
The only drawback that I found on the XJ500T and most MAG monitors is that the display is darker than most monitors in 3D games. You either increase the contrast & brightness when playing 3D games or get used to it. For me, I chose the latter.
With good visual quality, easy to use all in one JAG control and the only drawback that can be remedied, I think the Mag XJ500T is a monitor worth every penny.
