I was looking to upsize from my old Sony CPD-15SX1 monitor so I went to the local used computer shop and what did I find? A whole pallet of "cosmetically challenged" MAG monitors.
The one I purchased had a slight yellowing of the case. That's it. Total cost for this monitor was $39.95 US. I like my local used computer store.
Now, about the monitor. It's a fairly hefty piece of furniture. It's around 40 pounds and it sucks up desk space. But that's to be expected from a 17 inch monitor. Just be prepared for it, that's all.
The niftiest thing about this monitor is the jog wheel control. It took me about 2 minutes of playing with it to figure out how to use it. It's a simple thing to figure out. I have no reservations about it. It allows you to set everything with one button: brightness, contrast, H-size, H-position, V-size, V-position, pincushion, trapezoid, rotation, parallelogram, bow, corner, moire, degauss, the language of the menus, the position of the menu screen, individual RGB settings, and the temperature of the colors. All of which can be saved as user settings.
There are 8 user setting slots, so you can have different settings for different times of the day if you want. Brighter and cooler during the day -- when the sun shines in over your shoulder, and darker, warmer tones in the evening when you don't need to blind yourself. The advantage is, you don't have to reset everything to do it. Just switch from one saved setting to another. It's pretty slick.
I bought this monitor because of the price I paid. Even at twice the price it would have been a steal. If you're looking for a 17 incher, you could do a LOT worse.
