Review of Nokia Multigraph 447Za (April 23, 2001)
I own several computers, and I have had many more in past years. Through the years, my favorite monitor has been this Nokia Multigraph 447Za. It is absolutely perfect for me! The picture is always bright and clear right from start up. The screen is almost flat, making it easy on the eyes. It comes in an attractive plastic off-white housing that matches my PC fairly well. The most amazing feature is that it comes with some pretty high-quality built-in speakers. It also has a built-in microphone located at the very top of the screen.
The two stereo speakers are each only about 2 1/2" long, but the sound is comparable to a much bigger speaker. The convenience of not having two extra speakers on my already cluttered desk is a godsend! Also, no extra wires for the speakers!
The controls for the monitor and speakers are all logically laid-out on a small panel, just below the screen. These controls include a shift key (makes one button serve two functions when the shift key is depressed), a reset/color reset button (resets the screen in cases where a problem occurs), two sets of screen formatting keys (allows you to adjust height and width and position of picture on screen), brightness key, color key, mic/speaker mute key (allows you to mute your mic or speaker, should you need to quiet them instantly), volume control, a screen demagnetizer, and on/off button. It also has a series of LED indicators that allows you to see the volume level settings, when you press the volume level keys and a "power-on" LED to indicate when the power is on.
To the right side of the monitor are a headphone jack and a separate mic jack, should you need to use them. The monitor is mounted on a swivel base that easily allows you to move it to the left or right for a more comfortable view. Also, should you move the monitor to the right, the screen adjusts upwards, if you move it to the left, it adjusts downward.
The monitor is compatible with several of my PCs. I don't believe it is compatible with Mac computers (who cares?). The stats indicate that the monitor is 17" when measured diagonally, however, I measured it myself and it is really only 16" of viewable area. I don't know why monitor companies never give accurate measurements. The resolution is 1280 X 1024, which is pretty much standard with high quality monitors. It has a low dot pitch of 0.27, also pretty much standard.
The monitor is also pretty bulky and heavy as hell (about 50 lbs.). It takes up a good deal of desk space. It uses a separate grounded power cord, included with the monitor. It also has an attached cord that plugs into the back of your PC and is permanently connected to the monitor.
I would highly recommend this monitor. It has served me well for the past two years with absolutely no problems. It is very dependable and easy to view. The price ranges between $200 - $300, depending on the store where you do purchases. I would recommend checking out one of the internet price guides, such as mysimon.com to research a great price before buying. Good luck, and thank you for reading my review!
