| bionici's Full Review: Samsung SyncMaster 770 17 inch LCD Monitor |
I was in the process of purchasing a new computer. I already had a 17 inch monitor, and had had thoughts of upgrading to a 19 inch or 21 inch. However, the thought of the extra space that they require was really an issue with me. The 19 & 21 inch monitors are bulky, heavy, and really take up alot of space.
In addition, I had no intentions of downsizing to a 15 inch flat screen.
While wandering through the aisles of the local Comp USA store, I saw a Sony desktop that was displayed with a flat screen. However, the monitor somehow looked different. Then it dawned on me that this flat screen was larger than the ones on display in the monitor section. I asked a salesperson if they had these for sale, and he indicated that they were. I knew I had seen 15 inch flat screens for about $1000, but had heard that the 17 inch and 19 inch flat screens were more than double and sometimes triple the price of a 15 inch model. This flat screen was selling for several hundred dollars less than $2000. I immediately read several articles on this model, and the raters had nothing but glowing remarks for it.
I went back and bought this model, and have had nothing but great success. The picture clarity is better than the 17 inch I have used for the past few years. And the effective, useable screen, is similar to that of a 19 inch regular monitor. The picture fills the entire screen. You get a full 17 inches of great picture quality. The refresh rate is outstanding, and it adjusts easily for various pixel strength. It has controls that automatically adjust the picture, color, etc... And its weight, even a small child could pick it up. Well, I guess that COULD be a disadvantage, depending on the age of your children and their computer savy. But the monitor weighs almost nothing. Can't say the same thing about a regular monitor. The space savings are incredible. I now have room to put alot of junk in front of the monitor. In addition, there does not appear to be any glare or "eye burn" from the monitor.
My suggestion. Check it out. The price is much more affordable than you may think. And the quality of the picture is as good or better than a regular monitor.
