| scientist232's Full Review: Sony CPD 100ES CRT Monitor |
I didn't spend much money on the computer, a nice, economical eMachines 433i (now, of course, a dinosaur) and freeware and browser accessories abound (or come with the box when you buy it). On the advice of friends--computer nerds, actually--I spent some time looking for a good monitor. After all, it was the only part of the system that would be looking back at me.
I found the Sony 15-inch CPD-100ES monitor sitting (and looking a little lonely) on the shelf of a Computer Renaissance store on the north side of Indianapolis. It cost a little more than some others but the display won me over in short order. I didn't know what a 0.25 mm Aperture Grille was until I did some investigating. Sony is pretty sold on their proprietary technology (of course, they would be)--I just know the display on the screen is crisp and clean and fills the corners without distortion of the image. The fact that the surface of the screen was flat (as opposed to glossy) reduced glare and is one feature that sets the Trinitron line apart from others with similar specs.
The built-in self-diagnosis function and on-screen digital controls allow you to calibrate the monitor on the fly and get back to work. It's nice to know that it's Mac and Win95, 98 and NT compatible but my primary concern was that it deliver good images on my system which it does flawlessly.
It's a good monitor, a solid workhorse and it resolves a nice picture. Not much else to ask for in a monitor at any price.
