In my opinion, SONY monitors are the best monitors made! Just about everything SONY makes is phenomenal, and this monitor definitely applies! The quality and clarity of the monitor is so wonderful, why would I want anything else?
The Sony CPD-200ES monitor is a 17” (16” viewable) computer monitor. For improved picture quality and performance, this monitor contains a Trinitron Aperture Grille CRT. This provides a much cleaner picture over standard monitors. The monitor pitch is .25, which guarantees a crisp picture! It also has an Anti-Glare coating on the flat screen to prevent glare.
One thing I must note is in regards to the Aperture Grille. Sometimes (especially when the screen is white) you can see 2 thin moving across the monitor. These lines are actually thin wires holding the Aperture Grille to the front of the monitor. Don’t worry, this is normal, and it’s not very distracting!
The maximum resolution supported on the CPD-200ES is 1280 x 1024 at 60Hz. This is fairly good for a 17” monitor. Actually, I know that if I ran the resolution any higher than that, I’d probably go blind!
The image controls for the monitor are on screen. It is fairly simple to navigate the image controls with the front controls. It offers various image tweaks; Brightness and Contrast, Size and Position, Pincushion, Image Rotation, and Color Temp. You can also invoke a manual Degauss (the monitor will auto-Degauss during power on) if needed.
The Sony CPD-200ES is Energy Star Compliant, and fully supports Plug and Play. Most operating systems actually include a Monitor Profile for the CPD-200ES, so getting your machine to recognize the CPD-200ES should be a snap!
The monitor looks to be quite solid in construction. The monitor is average size for a 17” monitor at 16.0” x 17.0” x 16.5” (W x H x D). It weighs in at a little over 40 pounds, which I don’t think is too bad. It also has a Swivel base attached that can be removed if not needed.
To tell the truth, nothing I say here can do justice to the quality of the Sony CPD-200ES monitor. You have to experience it for yourself. You really should inspect ANY monitor before purchase. You will spend countless hours staring at it, so make sure you two get along before you put down the money for it!
My SONY CPD-200ES monitor has just recently been replaced by a Compaq MV940 monitor. The major reasons behind this are sheer size (the Compaq MV940 is a 19” monitor versus the 17” size of the CPD-200ES) and the fact that I got a really good deal on it. The overall quality and clarity of the Compaq MV940 can't touch my old SONY CPD-200ES!
