My Sony dead pixel nightmare

Written: Dec 13 '01
  • User Rating: Disappointing
  • Ease of Use:
Pros:Nice Unit only if you don't have any dead Pixels
Cons:Sony has an unfair 12-dead-pixel policy.
The Bottom Line: Have to buy any TFT in retail with option to return the merchandize because of dead pixels. And remember that the warranty doesn't help when comes to dead pixels.

I bought a "factory-seal" unit of this ultra thin Sony TFT, with 3 years of warranty, (1st year sony warrenty) 2nd and 3rd year third-party warranty) When I received this unit the first time. I immediately connected to my PC and found 2 dead pixels. I call Sony almost right away. and Sony gave the address to ship. The address was in Bristol, PA. After almost 1 month. I call to check the status, and Sony told me that the unit can't not be fix in PA and it is currently in Fremont CA. Days later I received the unit from Sony in Fremont, I opened the package and found the document, "Final Invoice Warranty Receipt" according to this document Sony states "No Fault Found". This is more than ridiculous. Why did Sony sent this unit from PA to CA, if it is indeed no fault found. Does Sony knows that the best way to check the presence of dead pixels is to make the desktop background black? So, I argued with Sony about this issue, Sony told me about their 12 pixel policy. That is they will only fix the TFT flat pannel only if it has more than 12 pixles.
Days later I received another call from Sony, and this time Sony had arrange UPS to pick up this unit from me again. I guess finally Sony had made the right decision to fix my TFT. But, after I receive the unit for the second time. The defect still haven't been fixed. I still have 2 pixles, and a document that says "No Fault Found" I paid for this unit more than two month and still haven't use it yet a single day. This is just a terrible nightmare.
