Pros: uncommonly beautiful; no gross trackball accumulating goo
Cons: cat fur does stick to the eye pretty often, causing mouse problems
The Bottom Line: Great mouse, unless you have a very furry (or hairy) house. The eye tends to pick up small hairs, which stop the eye until you blow the hair away.

Okay, I guess I already sound like a total slob, but I'm not (really). I do have five cats. Although I vacuum once a week, I can't keep up with the furry beasts. There is fur everywhere, especially around Day Seven when there are Furry Tumbleweeds in various corners of the house.
When I saw the Optical Mouse, I thought it was the answer to my prayers. No more trackball to pick up cat hairs and form "hairballs" inside the mouse. And, it looks beautiful--nothing else looks half as cool. And, my existing mouse was the Apple Hockey Puck--nothing, in my opinion, jams more frequently with Trackball Gunk than that mouse.
I couldn't wait to buy it. In haste I found one on eBay for $50 and bought it. I tore the hockey puck off my computer (selling it for $7 on eBay) and hooked up the optical mouse. I felt the gentle and responsive mouse underneath my hand and knew that this was a vast improvement.
But then I learned something. Every couple of hours, an errant cat hair will fall prey to my incessant mousing. All of a sudden, my pointer does not glide across the screen. Instead, it twitches pathetically on-screen. I pick up the mouse, and inevitably there is a hair stuck in the poor optical mouse's eye. Yes, hairs do get caught in the eye. Also it probably generates a fair amount of static, which doesn't help matters. I have to blow the hair out of the mouse's eye. In a few hours, the cycle repeats itself.
Other than That:
Other than that, the mouse is superb. Sure, I'd love a cordless mouse, or one with a double-click button, but this is a responsive, beautiful item. I use this mouse for graphic design, and I use PhotoShop a lot, which requires some pretty delicate mousework, and the mouse feels like an extension of my hand.
I have small hands, and this is one of the few mice that I do not find awkward. Also it is easy for me to change my grip on the mouse, which is important if you, like me, spend 14 hours at the computer per day.
The Apple Pro Mouse has no rollers or tracking mechanisms to wear out or clog, and no mouse balls to fish out and clean. Besides all that, there's no ...More at eBay
