dkreskai's Full Review: Logitech Cordless Wheel (911522-0403) Mouse
I have used many different types of mice in my 20 years of using computers. I have found two brands to be the best. I always prefer a Microsoft or a Logitech mouse for look, fell, longevity and durability.
If you buy a quality mouse it will last you a long time. A typical mouse comes with a four to five foot cord. This distance is usually a couple feet short of what the average person needs from their computer. Most people want to tuck their computer and cables away in a desk and only expose the monitor, mouse and keyboard. This can be a problem with a short mouse cord. I have the additional problem of hooking my USB mouse to my keyboard and always having the cord get pinched in my keyboard drawer. I've thought about a cordless mouse, but didn't want the additional expense to replace my fairly new and reliable Logitech mouse. So when I spotted the Staples ad with a Logitech mouse for $10 after a rebate, I figured it was worth a closer look.
The Cordless Wheel Mouse Special Edition II comes with:
PS/2 base receiver.
Cordless Wheel Mouse Gray Cover.
2 AAA batteries.
Logitech software installation CD-Rom.
An additional red cover and a green cover.
The receiver plugs into your PS/2 slot and communicates with your mouse thru infrared. The batteries go into the mouse to get it's power. The batteries snap in by removing the gray cover. You then have the option to change the cover you would like. The gray cover has a smooth finish, while the two other colors have a more rubbery feel to them. Now you can pick the color that matches your computer.
Installation is a snap, load the batteries, plug in the receiver, turn on your computer and push the connect button on the receiver and then press the button on the bottom of the mouse. Once your computer is booted up, it will recognize the mouse and install the drivers. The CD-Rom includes a Logitech program that will allow you to change your mouse speed settings. You can change your click speed, wheel speed, and movement. It also has a battery monitor to let you know if your batteries will need replacing. The directions say the batteries should last 6 months, but I would assume it depends on the usage. I haven't had mine long enough to give any opinion on battery life. A plan on using rechargeable batteries, so it won't be an issue for me.
As for the look, feel and operation of the mouse, what can I say, it's a Logitech. It works and feels great, you would not know it was cordless by using it. I move faster across my screen because I'm not dragging a mouse cord around or getting it tangled up in something. If you've never had a scroll mouse, you don't know what your missing. You shouldn't surf the internet without a scroll mouse. I have no problems recommending this mouse to anyone.
I did have one problem in the installation that I did not mention yet. I plugged in my receiver and placed it on top of my computer. When I booted the computer up, the mouse acted funky and wouldn't work properly. After checking the manual, I learned that I needed to move the receiver away from any electrical interference, such as the computer. After moving it a couple feet away, I was up and running with not problems.
If you want to ditch your cord, try this mouse, you may never go back. Watch for the rebates and get it at a good price.
