| rotwiler's Full Review: Logitech Marble Mouse (904360-0215) Trackball |
I like to sit in my recliner while on the computer and a traditional mouse really doesn't work well. Another good feature is that you don't have to constantly clean the rollers to get the mouse to work properly.
I have had many different brands of track balls and mice and never was very happy with any of them. That was until I bought the Logitech.
If you are like me, you don't want to clean those rollers all the time due to skin, dirt, and even hair getting in the rollers. There are optical mice out there, but then you have to make room next to the keyboard to use it. But then, you still have to move your wrist a lot. I started getting pain and numbness in my wrist and had to get something else.
I looked at all the products out there and picked the Logitech. The marble mouse is a wonderful product. The ball is about the size of a ping pong ball and made of a material that feels like a pool ball. There are 2 buttons about a inch long on both sides and the unit is made to fit the palm of your hand. Best of all, the marble mouse uses optical tracking, so there are no rollers to clean constantly. All you have to do is easily pull the ball out of the setting it is in and wipe it out. There are two small guides to give the roller proper clearance, the optical sensor, and that's it. The guides build up with skin, etc but, it is so much quicker and easier to clean. I liked the ease of cleaning and how accurate the optical tracking is.
So far, I have had this trackball in use for 1 year with zero problems. I rarely have to clean it and my wrist feels much better. One thing I would change if I was to make this trackball is the shape. It sits high in the center and my wrist is tilted up to clear the high point. My wrist feels ok, but this may produce problems later down the road.
There were no problems hooking up the Logitech and I had the trackball working in a matter of minutes. Hook it up like a regular mouse and turn your computer on and your off and running. I didn't even have to use a install disk. I have used the marble mouse in Windows 98 and Windows ME without any problems and never once installed any software for it.
I really like the Logitech for surfing the web and some games. There are games out there that will not work well with only two buttons and a trackball. I suggest a gamepad for games and a trackball for the internet. At $36 US, this is a well made product that will give you years of carefree use.
