rockefella's Full Review: Microsoft Intelli Optical (D58-00026) Mouse
I bought this mouse because I was tired of cleaning out my gummed up mechanical mouse, the kind everyone has. I settled on the Microsoft Intellimouse Optical because, frankly, it looked cool. I like the way the laser light turns the entire bottom into a glowing red disc. I fell for the canny marketing, in other words. The price was hefty, though I understand you now get an even better mouse with more optical scans per second for the same money.
Anyway, it was a great honeymoon...then daily marital life set in. My mouse started to get really finicky about what surfaces it would accept. Whereas, at first, I was mousing on my bed without a mousepad, now I needed to carefully select a good magazine to use. Eventually, I got a mousepad. This is a drag. I tried cleaning the lens but that didn't help much.
Then I dropped my mouse getting up from the sofa (I use a laptop, in case you haven't guessed). Whe I picked it up, I heard the ominous sound of something rattling around inside. You guessed it, the $70 mouse that was so cool at first had now officially divorced me and left the house. It had gone kaput. Now what do I do? I think I'm going to get a much cheaper, much sturdier, and ultimately equally effective mechanical mouse.
So take this cautionary tale to heart. Don't throw your hard earned $70 away on a fragile device which doesn't live up to its promises.
