Responsive, reliable, comfortable, everything you could ask for in an optical mouse
Written: Feb 22 '07 (Updated Feb 23 '07)
Product Rating:
Pros: Tracking accuracy, ability to track on different surfaces, forward/back buttons, excellent scroll wheel, very reliable
Cons: Red light doesn't match blue LEDs on my PC ... (basically no cons so far)
The Bottom Line: I recommend you purchase one if you're a gamer or photo/video editor, but don't want to spend $50 or more on a high-end mouse. It's accurate, functional, reliable and comfortable.
josheya's Full Review: Microsoft Intelli Optical (D58-00026) Mouse
I have owned this mouse for over two years, and it continues to perform admirably. It hasn't required a single cleaning, and I use it every day in different locations, on different surfaces, and for different purposes. I am a frequent Adobe PhotoShop user, and this mouse has been very precise for all my editing. When I click the mouse button, I am gratified by an instant response from the computer in exactly the location I expect. This makes editing a breeze. I never experience click-lag, and I never have trouble anticipating when to click when I'm moving the mouse quickly from location to location on the screen.
I also use this mouse for gaming. I recently purchased a fairly expensive wireless mouse, hoping it would not only free me from wires, but also be fast enough for my gaming needs. I was disappointed. The response was satisfactory only when the mouse was within 2 feed of the receiver and had line of sight (even though it had an advertised range of up to 30 feet). I have never had any lag when gaming with this mouse. Clicks happen instantly in the game, and I always move where I want to with extreme control.
It's impressive how well this tracks on different surfaces. I have yet to find a desk it will not track on, even though it's 'only' optical and not laser. I find that my laser mouse works fine on the desks and furniture, but when placed on the mouse pad it acts very strangely and has trouble tracking. I am pleased to say this optical Intellimouse tracks accurately on both mouse pads and furniture. I have used dozens of different mice on different surfaces at work and at school, and this outperforms most other optical mice I have used.
It's been durable, with ZERO problems. Works on my Mac computers and Windows computers via USB without any trouble whatsoever. The scroll wheel is very nice and provides just the right amount of click feedback when you're scrolling. The side buttons for forward and backward web browsing are very handy, and I seldom - if ever - click one accidentally.
If you can still find this mouse on the shelves, or an upgraded version of the same, it will please you with excellent reliability, comfort, functionality, and responsiveness.
