Having labored with the cramped keyboards of the Armada M300, the Sony Vaio 505 line and the Actius 250, I've found (at the cost of only a little extra weight for the unit itself) the standout road machine. The TravelMate's keyboard is almost as good as the ThinkPad 240's (just a hairbreadth of difference in key travel feel), but the screen of the Acer is far better than that of the mini-ThinkPad's.
The PIII processor really rocks. Although the combined CD/floppy external unit adds too much weight for travel purposes, it is great to have the CD unit included for the price. Further, the built-in networking features are a bonus that really adds value for me.
For my purposes (as you can guess by the emphasis on the keyboard, I type a lot), the great screen and super keyboard - combined with great processing power, make this the lightweight to beat. These features justify for me the downside of the extra half-pound or so of weight and the slightly larger measured dimensions of the unit (when compared to those models mentioned above - whose small footprint does help when flying coach). All in all a solid buy for the traveler.
