| Nickman56's Full Review: Apple PowerBook G3 (M7308LL/A) Mac Notebook |
The PowerBook delivers uncompromising performance in a stunning — and stunningly light — package: just 5.7-pounds with battery and weight-saving module installed, and 6.1 pounds with battery and DVD-ROM drive installed.
This portable movie studio comes with enough built-in muscle — up to 18 gigabytes of hard disk space — to put most digital video projects into overdrive. And with an ultrasharp, 14.1-inch TFT active-matrix display, the ATI RAGE Mobility 128 video controller and 8 megabytes of video memory, the PowerBook lets you do it all and see it all with exceptional clarity—in millions of colors.
The demand for these computers is such that teachers have to sign up for using them months in advance. If, for example, a teacher is late returning one, the teacher awaiting the PB is less than happy. Grumbles continue well beyond the missed return making life worse than lunch duty for the offending party. Even days off for snow have caused problems.

Teachers plan for PowerBook use, and they want their computers when it is their turn. No excuses are accepted. Those who are taking graduate courses are especially fond of the little computers. They can do course writing at home and effectively integrate course work into classroom projects and research. Even teachers who had to be encouraged to get their
Classroom computers going are vying for the opportunity to transport a PB home. There is a carry-over from PB use to classroom use. The excitement goes beyond what teachers can do at home to how software can be utilized effectively in the classrooms. There's a special excitement, an aura perhaps, around the PowerBooks. If a machine can have charisma, this one does.
Most of that positive aura surrounding our PBs must be attributed to the fact that PowerBooks are easy to use and easy to carry home. Taking a computer home to prepare lessons or explore software no longer involves several trips to the car, strapping in assorted parts, and using a manual to discover how to set the computer back up once it gets home. Put the PB and power supply into a neat, compact case, and that's it.
