Yes, there is a new Ti4 on the market. But to meet my given budget, I got the Powerbook G3 400 (2000) 320mb,10gb,56k,DVD, Firewire. This is the last series before the TiG4 came out. I was a bit leery in that I had to move into the PC world for some time and our company finally gave in to my proposal to get Mac's integrated to our network. How are things working?
Well, I am working fine and dandy on our companies Win2K network. I purchased DoubleTalk and works great seeing the network drives. I would recommend DAVE in that it is easier to use. Next, I have Virtual PC running Win98 and 2K. This is great letting me do my IT Administration. The speed is ok and workable.
One of the things that I love about this powerbook is the fact that I don't crash anywhere close to that of my Windows workstation.
Would I recommend this system? You Bet!! Not only is this a solid workhorse, but also I have had the best customer support /sales yet. Before I bought the machine, they didn't sit there and tell me why the competition was trash...in fact, they gave me the CONS of owning a Mac. Never heard that one from the PC side of the market. The only ones close were IBM and Dell...both great companies.
I am not slamming the PC market cause I use both, but I really appreciate that Apple sales/support is up front and honest. Support-wise...they answered everything and were extremely helpful.
One other thing about the Powerbook is that the company has built the system with the end user in mind. Take for instance the power adapter. Whoever thought that one up needs to be commended! It rolls up nicely without dangling cords. Let us not forget that this machine looks like a million bucks, too.
I am a power user using both PC's and Macs (coding, graphics, digital animation, web design). Also coming from IBM as an engineer, I love computing period. But I would say honestly that Apple has it "going on". This is a great notebook with some really nice features.
You won't regret going with this machine.
