I have had both an IBM compatible and now an iBook, and I think that what the iBook makes up for in speed it loses in its design. The screen in my opinion is far smaller than any lap top I have owned, and the machine itself is much to clunky and far heavier than any lap top out there. Although the machine is fast and works well, I found it hard to adjust to the different shape and size of the machine. However, if you are a first time user and are looking for something worth the dollar, the iBook is definitely what you need, BUT if you have been using IBM computers I do not recommend making the switch to Apple.
