The best thing I can say about this is I think it is a super, super unit. It's my first notebook and I must confess to prejudice. What limited research I was able to do prior to purchase of the Apple iBook provided me with enough info to make a semi-informed decision.
Apple has a great support team, especially for the beginners and any problems I had were resolved promptly and efficiently.
I needed a portable product that was relatively inexpensive (ah - there was a budget set), plus I was somewhat familiar with Macintosh as well as Windows as an operating system.
Within the price range set, other computers fell a little short. When I compared other units, I found that I needed much more software knowledge than was available without too much hassles, especially since my research was initially done via the Internet and not everything is printed there. Otherwise I would be writing about another kind.
Students, business people, people with limited space or just a wish to upgrade would be pleasantly surprised not only by the performance, but ease of operation and response time to requests. If the iBook could talk to me (mine can't I won't let it right now) I'm sure he would have told me anything needed to rectify various situations.
I will, I must confess, chose an Apple product privately a number of years ago but gave other manufacturers a chance to extoll their own virtues. Mostly, I did not obtain the information I wanted so the iBook became mine and I will not relinquish him.
I also bought additional software to expand the capabilities of my little machine, which I feel compares favorably to a much-touted desktop, as well as a portable printer with several accessories.
My only complaint lies within the reseller I purchased from - they don't seem to know where or how things were placed on my machine, nor do they know who owns the software that came preinstalled. Neither did Apple since it wasn't all bundled with the iBook package.
The iBook has a modem and ethernet connection both, a USB connection, AC adapter (interesting thing that little baby is), speaker headphone outlet and CD-Rom drive. It's lightweight, tough (polycarbonate case), portable and easily set up and configured. Changes are simple and easy to make, graphics are super. This was my first time for set up and configuration and had I not bought and needed to install the additional software I would have been up and running the first half hour!
