The new (Fall, 2000) iBook SE (FireWire) makes a superb traveling companion for the Mac lover or anyone who wants a reliable, easy to use, powerful and fast portable computer. It's a snap to get it on the Internet, and the optional ($99) AirPort wireless networking card connects seamlessly and swiftly to the brilliantly engineered AirPort base station ($299). With a bright, clear SVGA screen, responsive touchpad, a wide array of I/O ports (modem, 10/100Mbps Ethernet, FireWire, USB, Audio, Video), it can do everything from surfing the Web to creating desktop movies with the included iMovie 2 software.
Perhaps iBook's biggest strength is the integrated and highly refined Mac OS 9 that ships installed with it. Simple and elegant for the beginner or student, powerful and responsive for the Mac veteran, it makes using the computer a delight instead of a chore.
Apple's best consumer portable yet, and a bargain for the value received.
