I own an iMac Special Edition and the new 'cube'. I love Apple. I love Macs. Having been in the graphic design field- (not any more) I was bottle fed on Macs for a long time. Sure- i have a PC too, but I really love my Macs. I suppose anyone who buys a Powerbook or an ibook only would buy one if they already own a Mac desktop.
I bought my iBook Special Ed, in graphite, which matches my two desktops. Its phat, I like it. Its got a 466MHz G3 processor and 64MB of RAM, (expandable to 320MB), a 10GB hard disk drive and a DVD CD-Rom drive. I seldom use the DVD drive on my desktop, except at work where I feed digital video into the computer and lift still shots, etc. But with my iBook, I like to actually watch movies on the train. I know. Pretentious, loser. Yeah, but it's pretty cool.
The way the internet connecting works is the best best best part. You plug in the Air-Port base into your DSL, (I have DSL, but phone line works too), and then the Air-Port card goes into your iBook. So in essence it's like an antenna. And there I am online, anywhere I want to be. That was the main reason I got the ibook in the first place. So I could surf on my own turf. I take the whole deal with me to the airport, and best of all, I can sit cozily in my big fluffy chair and peck on. Undisturbed. It's like my own little world.
The battery charge has lasted me approximately 5 hours, but watching a movie uses up the battery faster. I watch a full DVD movue and have maybe an hour left after that. It is so cool to be watchin a movie on the train, with my headphones in. Even better, I let my daughter watch movie in the car when we go on long trips. She stays quiet the whole time. She plays Bugdom, or Solitaire, and all is well.
This laptop is phenomenal, and I love it, I have no problems with it as of yet. I also love to play Bugdom, the cool game that comes with it- but that is an aside. I stopped at level 5 and can't get any further, (dam those ants). All in all, as Mac's go- I love the new iBook SE, and am very please with its' performance so far.
