Pros: Pretty reliable OS, upgradeable
Cons: small speaker, won't fit on airline tray easily (coach)
The Bottom Line: Overall, I would highly recommend the ibook to designers, students, people who travel (first class or train), and those who want portability and power in one product.

| dj_billings's Full Review: Apple iBook Key Lime Special Edition 12.1 in. (M82... |
The ibook was easy to get started with, right out of the box. If you're familiar with the Mac OS already, you won't have any trouble. PC users will need some time getting used to the menus and toolbars, but not much. The ibook came with 64 MB of RAM, which I upgraded almost immediately to 128 MB, so I could run After Effects, Flash, Photoshop, and other apps. Installing the upgrade was really easy. They run fine now, and even with the usual laptop-sized screen I get a lot done.
I like to play mp3's while I work, but the speaker is a little small to get any kind of real performance out of them. The sound is tinny and metallic, kind of like my grandma's old AM radio. When I plug in headphones it sounds great. The DVD player is a great feature, and for the most part works well, but after playing 2 in a row it freaks out a bit. Oddly enough, the sound is a little better on DVD playback than audio CD's or mp3's.
I was a little disappointed at having only one USB port, since I frequently use my ZIP drive and Wacom tablet at the same time. I don't think I'll ever need the firewire port, so I wish I had an extra USB instead. The power cable is cool-looking and easy to use, but I'm not sure why they designed it in two sections. They do include a phone cable, but it's pretty short.
On a recent plane trip, I wanted to get some work done, but it was difficult to open the case all the way in a coach seat. I would have sat in First Class, but I spent all my money on the computer. Ahem. I don't know if anyone at Apple tried it out first, but it's not a good fit- and I'm pretty skinny and flexible, if not wealthy.
