And let me tell you, I am so happy. I placed my order for the DVD version on May 9th through MacMall and it arrived on the 24th. Well worth the wait. I've been a mac user for 2 years now and i am very impressed at how much the iBook has improved. Kudos to apple for an excellent machine.
By the way, share my excitement. Here's the link to see me opening the iBook:

I got a free 128MB RAM module installed so my IceBook runs on 256RAM :) I don't need all the computing power of a TiBook so this one fits my college lifestyle just fine. DVD's are awesome to watch. The screen is so crisp even if it's only 12.1" VIS. Not a prob because of the 1024x768 resolution. Why buy a small portable DVD player when you can have THIS!!! And the computer is so zippy :) It burns any PC laptop. ANY! This thing looks so delicate it's hard to believe it's made out of bullet proof material! Hide from drivebys with this thing. Haha. Just kidding!
I love how it almost instantly wakes up from sleep. I use this as my alarm clock in the morning. I hooked up my Canon digital elph, external zip and scanner to the iBook with no connection problems at all. My only prob is getting my USB burner to work w/this. Photoshop is a breeze. Very smooth. And with OS 9.1, i like how you can empty trash by Apple+Shirt+Backspace. Very convenient.
iTunes is a great program but i liked the old SoundJam better just because it had an equalizer for the sound. I had some sound problems at first but did the apple update and that fixed the problem.
this iBook is my new best friend. Everyone's jealous of me!! I think i'm the first girl in town to have one of these babies :). I am planning to buy the airport card & base soon to use w/my DSL. I can't wait.
the iBook. understated elegance.
6/7/01 I updated from OS 9.1 to OS X. Tada! Whew, although it IS very pleasing to the eye, it's rather slow--very RAM HUNGRY even with my 256MB! I don't have any native OS X apps so I always have to switch to Classic mode, which takes so long to start up. I guess I'll just use 9.1 but leave OS X installed and play with it when I'm bored. It's a totally new interface. I was impressed though at how easy it was to connect to my DSL modem. No software had to be installed! Yeah! But there's still a lot to learn. I'm not ready for all that yet!
6/14/01 I figured out how to burn a music CD, I did it through iTunes. It was very easy! Wow. Just create a playlist of your converted .mp3 to .wav files and click Burn CD. That's all! It detects the burner automatically. Cool! Now if I could only burn a data CD now...
6/20/01 Ok, got frustrated w/my LaCie (apparently, its firmware needed to be updated and i'd have to send it out to Lacie to get it fixed). I went to CompUSA and got Toast Titanium and the iomegaZipCDRW 650 which works very well. it doesn't bother me that it's only 4x write. so what. it's USB. but i'm having a blast burning all this stuff now :) and oh yeah, i super clean installed the ibook about 3 times already :) i formatted the drive to be extended so right now i have 9GB of space. yeahhhhh.
9/24/01 Ok, I have had this laptop for exactly 4 months. It still kicks @ss!! I discovered I can hook up my DV Sony digital 8 camcorder to it via firewire and use it as a webcam! I just downloaded ivisit from www.ivisit.com (and it's Mac/PC compatible!) and that's all there is too it! No separate drivers, etc. to get. It works extremely well and the picture is very crisp compared to just a regular webcam with a snowy resolution. Wow! I have also invested in an Airport card & base so now I am completely wireless! And the connection to my DSL is lightning fast! I am so impressed. I have moved into the apartment downstairs and there isn't a DSL jack available. That is why I am so thankful to have Airport. It was also extremely simple and quick to install. This is the true meaning of User Friendliness! I also invested $50 for some Cambridge Soundworks speakers and, when paired with the iBook and SoundJam, it sounds like a fabulous concert--excellent sound quality! (as opposed to the built in tinny iBook speakers, which i just use when I wake up to my favorite mp3 with the Sound Jam alarm clock.
