(Blair Witch type of whispering) *Shh. Don't tell them I'm in here. It is the only place I get to be alone anymore and the only place I get to write.
Yes, that's right. Get over it already! I am talking to you from the comfort of my commode right now! Knickers pulled down around my ankles, feet pressed up against a cool tub and a nice hot laptop warming my thighs.
We purchased the Compaq Presario 1255 right after getting our Hewlett Packard PC. You see...we did what most people do when they first get their computers...
They become entirely addicted and dependent on them.
We were living in New England and facing a move to Pennsylvania. I was a mere 75 months pregnant and home bound trying to get our apartment ready for movers, my hubby was transferred to start his new job in the Keystone state.
Now..please keep in mind that we had never really been apart in the 15 years we have been together for any significant amount of time (even with traveling jobs we managed to coordinate our schedules) so facing over a month of being alone was ...well...lonely.
He had been gone all of three days (and my phone bill was already skyrocketing!) when he called me and told me to sign into www.insertyourfavoritechatroomhere.com
(uhh..for those of you that can't keep up..that is a fictional name..you think I'm gonna tell you where we REALLY met?).
I signed in and lo and behold..there was my sweetie just a waiting for me. We snuck into a private room and chit chatted the night away for the cost of a local call.
We also both have problems sleeping without the other one to hold...so this would be a nice way to..um...release some tension together and snuggle up for the night. I finally got our home all taken care of in New England and moved here to be with him.
We were stuck in a teeny tiny hotel room for another month before our home here was ready to close on. With my little Compaq here I whiled away my days quite comfortably. I got some writing done, corresponded with friends, took care of banking and...well...maybe had a distraction or two more, *giggle*.
Now we have a rambunctious soon-to-be-terrible-two year old and the laptop is perfect for sneaking off to remote hiding places in the house during nap time and getting some writing done.
The 1255 is light and easy to use. The keyboard has great action (although it is hard to use if you have any type of nails at all!). The display is bright and has fantastic quality. The mouse is a small "move your finger across a screen" type of thing and is kind of fun to use. It connects quickly and easily with very very few boots (a huggggged plus during cybersex with your hubby believe me! )
I will spare you all of the technical info like how many rams, megs, and other nonsense it has because if you really want to know it is on the information page and if you don't understand it, it will just give you a headache and not mean anything anyway.
The down side to the 1255 is that the battery power on it is laughable. If we get a solid 20 minutes out of this it is a miracle. This is the third battery we have had for it, returning the others each time.
I just read another epinion that suggested that the battery needed to be refurbished, (it is the only epinion not recommending this so far).
The other down side is ladies, if you have nails you will have to learn to type slower on it.
Also when the laptop is closed it makes a loud *CLICK* which you would think would be good because it would let you know that it is closed...but with a sleeping baby it is like an alarm clock.
If you want a laptop as a second desk computer that you can also sit on the sofa (or toilet) and use with a power source..get it.
If you want something you can take to the park or the beach or anywhere else and get work done..look into a better model with a longer battery life.
Have fun!
