I had to buy a laptop for work and did lots and lots of research. Cost was a huge factor because I was not working as much I would have liked (freelance). In my profession I had to run Vector Works (like CAD) as well as specailized software for word processing and a virtual light lab. I had to have a Pentium proc. and lots of RAM along with lots of hard drive. My first choice was actually not Compaq. I was going to order a Gateway and was literally on my was to the store to do so when I went by Staples. Not the place I would normally by a computer I browsed and found that I could custom make my own laptop AND staples was having a rebate of 800 bucks! couldnt beat that so I got a quote and ordered one. When it arrived I was very excited! I played and messed around with it and realized it was running very slow for the 600Mhz proc. I had ordered. Yes it was 600MHz I checked, it was just loaded with stuff I didn't want. software scattered here and there. I called to complain and the polite technicain helped me clean out the hard drive. I'm very satisfied with the computer now although the lid to the A drive fell off (haven't even used it yet) but compaq said thay'll fix it any time, it was only 2 springs.
