I looked around for almost two months before I decided to get this laptop. I purchased it around Christmas of 99 and was able to walk into Fry's Electronics, purchased it, then walk out with it. No buying it over the net and waiting for delivery. And I got a great price on it. I almost got the next model down, but for just a few dollars more I was able to get an active matrix screen and a DVD Rom drive. And I am happy I spent the extra money. It has been a great laptop. I am a software developer and I have moved all of my development to this laptop. it has the speed at 450 mghz, and enough hard drive space for all my development tools (6 gigs), and has a great feel to the keyboard so I can type at full speed (around 80 wpm). With all the software that comes loaded like MS Works, MS Money, NetZero Internet software, etc., it is ready to go out of the box. No need to spend a lot of time loading everything to make it useable.
I also purchased a 3 year extended warranty, but I don't think I will ever need to use it as the unit has been rock solid for the last 4 months.
It comes with USB support built in and I have used it for both a net cam and a joystick. Both worked the first time I plugged them in (after I loaded the appropriate drivers for each).
The battery is a Lithium Ion type and the first time I really tested it, it lasted for the entire 3.5 hours I used it still have 57% remaining. Most of what I was doing was transferring files to a desktop so there was lots of hard drive activity. I was very impressed with the battery life.
Overall, you can't go wrong with this laptop. I have absolutely no complaints about it at all!
