I just found myself in the exact same situation! After going to two stores trying to find this Compaq notebook in stock, I ended up reading this review and checking out the website.
I ended up getting the notebook for the same price from Compaq - but with a 600 rather than a 500 processor, the 12gb drive, and the built in ethernet. (Actually, it was $50 more, plus $50 for express shipping -- but then factor in that I saved about $120 because I don't have to buy a PCMIA ethernet card).
Thanks for sharing your purchasing experience - it really saved me on this one!
