| zigzag's Full Review: Compaq Presario 305 (102331-003) PC Notebook |
I compared, and I think the 305 offers the most features and versatility in its class. It comes with a mobile docking station with swappable CD-ROM and floppy drives, as well as extra ports and speakers (the floppy can also be used independently of the docking station). The docking station is the same size as the notebook, so together they're just like a thicker notebook when you need to carry the drives around (I seldom need them). The notebook itself is only 3 lbs., but very sturdy. Built-in serial, parallel, and USB ports. 4 MB VRAM (most in class) w/ an ATI chip and built-in video out. Built-in port for Kensington cable lock. Battery rotates down to create a better keyboard angle, a really nice touch. Excellent screen, keyboard, Synaptics touchpad. Celeron 333 more than quick enough for most needs. Bundled w/ Word, Works. Battery lasted 90 minutes surfing the Web. Extra battery packs available for more power, but like most people I'm usually moving from one AC outlet to another. I've had no problems, so haven't tested Compaq support. So far, I could not be happier with this machine. It's as close as I've seen to an ideal notebook solution.
