| cathieanne's Full Review: Fujitsu LIFEBOOK C6557 (FPC040393) PC Notebook |
As I type this, I am sitting at my very own, Fujitsu Lifebook C Series. When my parents asked what I wanted for my high school graduation, I facetiously said, "Oh, a laptop." I then changed my request, saying, "No, I really want some new clothes." Well, guess what. I didn't get the clothes. Instead, I got a notebook computer that is faster, smaller, and has more memory than the family computer. Too bad I use it to surf the net, get e-mail, play games, and the occasionally assignment.
Before we begin, let me say that this computer does not come cheap. I think my dad got a deal (he being a computer nerd), but it still cost 1/3 as much as the car I drive.
It's got everything you could want, and them some. DVD-ROM drive built in, speakers, lots of memory, network hookup thing, USB ports, built in modem . . . . All this information is available on the company's web site. I don't know all the tech stuff. I'm sure my dad told it to me, but I didn't really care. Still don't, actually.
Mine is slightly different from the one on the site, though. It has an ADM-K6 processor, and instead of that obnoxious touchpad (how I hate those!!), mine has an alternative pointing device. It's about the size of a nickel, and you tilt it to move the cursor in that direction, similar to trackpoints (the little orange dot between the keys). Press firmly, and it goes fast. Press gently, and it goes more slowly. It has two buttons underneath, and the area is slightly recessed. Sometimes when I'm typing I hit the mouse button accidentally, but I've learned not to rest my wrists on the computer, and that problem is solved. I've never seen this before, and I far prefer it to touchpads and trackpoints. Second only to a USB mouse, I really like what I've got. I don't even know what to call it. Maybe a touchpoint? Anyway, I really like it.
I love the applications panel! There are four buttons: A, B, Internet and E-mail. You can program them to bring up any programs you want. It comes with defaults such as MS Works and Internet Explorer, but it's easy to change them. I have it set to bring up my Juno e-mail program, Instant Messaging, and Netscape. I haven't figured out how to work the POP stuff yet, so the e-mail button does me no good. Except when I'm using the CD player. You see, these buttons are alternately labeled as stop/eject, play/pause, previous track, and next track. With the flick of a switch, the buttons no longer bring up programs, but instead control the CD player that came preinstalled on the computer. The speakers aren't too bad, considering that it is only a notebook.
I love the pointing devise, and the application panel rocks! It was also very convenient that programs such as Quicken, and Adobe Acrobat Reader were already installed. Turns out it's such a cool computer, my dad's computer nerd boss was planning on get one. All in all, I would highly recommend this computer.
