* I've used laptops since the early days with the old Tandy. I've been through the Toshiba line, and now my company has provided me with my second new IBM 600X. As a laptop - good, as a computer - so last year!
* I am amazed at the POOR quality of the sound card. The Crystal SoundFusion turns my CD's into scratchy garbage. I used to toss a CD in my Toshiba, plug in the speakers, and enjoy high volume, crisp sound. Now, I get scratchy distorted squawks. This happened with both machines.
* I have a second one as we are starting to get into multimedia, meaning videos imbedded in PowerPoint presentations. I had to buy a third-party card to input my from DV camera (IEEE-1394) and getting output to a DV or VCR is a real challenge. With the soundcard being so poor, I can't add any music without it sounding REAL cheap.
* The whole thing runs too hot. If I tried to use this as a laptop, I'd have burns on my legs for sure. What about someone in a wheelchair who doesn't have the benefit of feeling in lower limbs?
* This machine came with Windows 98, and that seems to be the standard. OS/2 is long dead, so why doesn't IBM admit it and put a Windows Start key on the keyboard? If your mouse/pencil tip pointer, whatever, is not working, you have a pretty useless machine.
* It is fast! It handles video "okay" and of course runs Word and the usual overblown programs well. It does occasionally get confused and lock up tight, but with two off-keyboard ways to kill it, you can get out of a bind readily.
* Forget about support by phone or website - ain't gonna happen.
