A fantastic piece of hardware. This is by far the finest computer I have ever purchased. Once again, IBM has managed to create quite possibly the best combination of power and portability in a laptop. This is the world-traveling road warriors dream machine. If you need a serious computer to do serious number crunching while on the road, then this is the machine for you. If you need one computer to do it all, then this one is definitely it. And, a superior game machine as well!
It is just slightly porky when compared to some of the slimmer models from other manufacturers, but I believe that the Thinkpad 600X is the right combination of speed and features vs. weight, especially if you need to have a complete compliment of ports, including IrDA, USB, and TV-Out. When paired with the IBM port replicator, this is a fine desktop replacement machine as well. I use it as my primary computer at home and on the road. It is extremely easy to upgrade HDD and memory. If you type a lot, IBM simply has the best laptop keyboards, and the Trackpoint device is also the best mobile pointing solution, much better than a trackball or the trackpad on my last machine.
The rest of the machine has IBM's typically superior fit and finish. The Ultrabay is outstanding, easily switching between LS-120, ZIP (100Mb only), CD, DVD, Floppy, battery, etc. Excellent battery life, 3+ hours with stock battery.
Of course, this model has now been replaced by the A20, so there are some good (even great!) deals available for the 600X. Go out and get one while you can!
