| twaller98's Full Review: Lenovo ThinkPad 600 X (6005FUK) PC Notebook |
I bought 9 of these Thinkpad 600X's direct from IBM for an awesome price of $2200 each. By default they had a PIII450, 64MB RAM, a 4.3GB Hard Drive, Sound, CDROM and a built in 56K modem. I added 64 MB of RAM (For a total of 128MB), and a 3COM 10/100 Network card for a total price including delivery of well under 2500 per unit.
I wanted to put Windows 2000 on these, but I was told my wait time would go up by a month, and I wanted to put DVD on one of the units, and IBM wasn't selling that as an option with Windows 2000. I settled for Windows 98. As it was, I waited 5 weeks for delivery, and not all the pieces came at once, and I skipped the DVD option all together due to budget restraints.
I would have liked a bigger screen, but 13.3 is bigger than the 12.1s my users are having replaced, and the smaller screen makes the whole unit smaller and lighter.
8 out of 9 had no problems; one had a video issue out of the box. IBM was good about setting up service on that unit, but due to a parts delay, it took too long to get it back.
These machines were easy to configure with Windows 98, and I had no problem setting up an image from scratch quickly. After 2 machines were tested for 2 days by different users with zero issues, I put the image on the rest and we we rolling them out in no time.
Even at full price, these babies are a good deal. They are lightweight, powerful, and durable. (That doesn't mean you can drop it.)
All of my users are happy with the Thinkpad 600X.
Try one yourself and you will see why.
