Since IBM's coming out with the T20, I checked and the 600X is still available. I have been using this machine at work and at home. It can handle all of the larger programs at work (runs on NT 4.0, takes Oracle, Lotus Notes, etc. in stride - I was using the 600E in a different dept.) and it also supports my surfing and playtime at home.
Durability
Many people at work need the mobility and convenience of a laptop. This is one of the more durable laptops, having put it through some of the more rigorous tests myself, daily travel, long distance travel, a few drops here and there, and, of course, a head on collision in my former Toyota Celica. I don't want to compare this to the (you know, "battery") bunny, but this machine seems to keep going and going.
Picture and Sound
The picture clarity is excellent. At work, some people use the laptop screen to work off instead of the company provided 17" or 18" monitors. I've noticed that some epinionites have an issue with the sound card, ditto. The sound works, but it is neither the clearest or loudest that I've heard. Message manager (checking voicemail) comes over scratchy with a lot of echo, in some instances it isn't audible. Of course, maybe everyone who is calling me has marbles in their mouth, but I doubt it.
Ease of Use
I find the keyboard to be "ho-hum", then again, I'm a traditional keyboard user. The keys are too close together, the pencil eraser mouse is not to my liking, and the functions using multiple keys are (ie. Shift/F11) a little difficult to use. But, I don't imagine I'll be happy until they come out with a lighted keyboard for use in the dark.
Power
Without moving to the desktops you aren't going to find anything much faster or more efficient. It handles multiple windows at the same time efficiently and I have rarely run into any problems that are the fault of the computer. On another note, I have had better results from the power supply than most, with no problem going 3 to 4 hours.
This laptop seems fit for the corporate traveler instead of the mere weekend warrior of computer buffs. The system gets few points for style, but many points for efficiency, durability and convenience. Good for work and home use, this is definitely a great example of a practical laptop.
