I purchased my Thinkpad A20m with the 700mhz Pentium processor, 192 MB or RAM, and the integrated Ethernet/56K modem. It took about 2 months for my Thinkpad to come in the mail, but it was WELL worth the wait.
I do not have enough good things to say about this computer. It was the only computer I could find with a full sized keyboard and that nifty Thinklight feature. It also has a gorgeous 14.1" screen and oodles of hard drive space. IBM has a great customer service system though their website and the IBM Update Connector program, and over the telephone. Thinkpads also come with a lot of diagnostic software which I have found very useful, but lack all of the junky extra programs which slow things down that lesser notebooks such as Compaqs and Hewlett-Packards come with.
The Thinkpad A20m is also an incredibly expandable notebook. It came with a USB, Serial, Parallel, Infrared, and keyboard port as well as 2 PC Card slots. It has a built in floppy drive and Ultrabay Slot which holds a CD-ROM drive or any number of other accesories such as a DVD, CD-RW, Zip, or second hard drive, or a second battery.
I have not had any problems with my Thinkpad in the 6 months that I have owned it, and have found the battery to last about 3 hours during full usage, and longer if you take advantage of the numerous batter saving strategies and programs and functions which Thinkpads come with. I got a cheap padded case for my computer at the Container Store for about fifteen dollars, and there have been many times where I have just stuck my computer into my backpack and carried it around to work on papers and homework. It is so easy to carry and use!
I also have a HP 5200C scanner, an external Zip 250 USB drive, and a HP Deskjet 697C connected to my Thinkpad, and it handles them all with ease. It can scan, print, save, and surf the interet all at the same time, while being ready at the drop of a hat to go off to class or to the library. This is one amazing computer.
Thinkpads tend to be a little more expensive than Presarios, Omnibooks, Pavillions, Satellites, or Gateway Solos, but it is well worth it. My dad has a Toshiba Satellite, and I considered getting one similar to his, but the Toshiba's customer service, expandability, and portability just did not measure up to the Thinkpad. I also looked at Dell Inpirons, but they cost substantiall more than comparable Thinkpads and didn't have the same quality feel.
All in all, I think that the IBM Thinkpad A20 is the best desktop replacement notebook computer manufactured today. It may cost a little more than some, but you DEFINITELY get what you pay for.
